The first outreach: food for more than 200 displaced people

11 July 2019, Mabanda-Bonaberi: the day the Foundation was launched.

01

The challenge

Displaced people from across the North-West and South-West regions, now living in Mabanda, Douala IV, had fled the violence. Some had lost loved ones; others did not know where their relatives were; many had lost their identity documents and certificates, making it hard to find work.

What we did

On Thursday 11 July 2019, launching the Foundation, the team listened to their stories and donated assorted food items to more than 200 displaced people.

What changed

More than 200 people received food. Moved by what she heard, Syndy Emade announced a back-to-school campaign for their children, which the Foundation delivered the following month.

In their words

When violence erupted in Mbalangi, my husband was killed while returning from the farm. As the main breadwinner of the family, I and my children had no choice than to seek safety elsewhere.

Hearing their painful stories of how they became IDPs and how they lost their families and homes, I couldn’t hold back my tears.

We are planning a major back to school campaign and our wish and goal is to try to equip some children with their school needs and school fees to facilitate their return to school.

What happens next

The promised back-to-school campaign took place in August 2019: see “Back to school: 600 children equipped, 300 school fees paid”.
